1K Challenge 2010 Recipients

YouthWorks funds up to $1,000 toward a student-led ministry project that helps to meet a need in local communities. We are excited to announce the 2010 1K Challenge Recipients. Congratulations!

Faith Lutheran Church
Glen Ellyn, IL
The youth of Faith Lutheran will offer a kids program for refugee children that will assist them in learning English and provide general homework help.

 

First Presbyterian Day School
Macon, GA
Beloved Blankets will provide blankets for those in need in the Macon area. They will do blanket drives and distribute the blankets to local shelters and the Red Cross.    

 

First United Methodist Church
Port St. Lucie, FL
The youth group will operate a Kids’ Closet, which will provide clothes, toys and school supplies for at-need families in the community.

 

Grace United Methodist Church
Pekin, IL
The youth group will build relationships with the children who live in the public housing development in Pekin by offering programming (similar to Kids Club) for the kids to teach them about Jesus.

 

Messiah Lutheran Church
Vancouver, WA
Operation 127 will mobilize teams of youth to build relationships with the residents of their local retirement homes. They will also assist SW Washington’s foster care system by providing gifts and encouraging notes for children within the system. 

 

Oversea Chinese Mission
New York, NY
The youth group will assist the elderly in their community with cleaning, painting and house repairs. Their goal is to show God’s love through their service and to grow in Christ through service, love and prayer. 

 

Springfield First United Methodist Church
Springfield, NE
The youth group will put together kits of toys (that will include a handmade card from the youth group) to be distributed to the kids at Midlands Hospital. Their goal is to remind the kids that they are loved by Jesus and to invite their families to attend a service at the church. 

 

Presbyterian Church
Henderson, KY
The youth group has a desire to serve the kids in their community through a Saturday-morning kids club experience. The program they are designing will focus on healthy diet, exercise and physical well-being, creative arts, and Christian formation.


Pulaski Heights Baptist Church
Little Rock, AR
The youth group at Pulaski Heights Baptist will open and maintain a Kids’ Closet within their church for families in the Interfaith Hospitality Network.  The closet will contain new and gently used clothing, backpacks and toys. 

 

Family in Christ Community Church
Westminster, CO
Breaking Free will assemble gallon-sized Ziploc bags full of basic necessities for the homeless in the Denver area. Small groups of the youth, along with an adult leader, will distribute the bags and encouraging notes.
