Safety

On-Site Safety
First and foremost, we want you to know that we are, at all times, concerned with safety. We have specific on-site procedures in place to help keep everyone safe. These include:

  • Site Boundaries – The Site Director will inform participants of the site boundaries, and we ask that youth and adults abide by these boundaries.
  • Rule of Three – Participants are asked to always travel in groups of three or more.  Youth should always have an adult leader present when away from the housing site. This includes working at a ministry site, walking or elsewhere in the community.

Our site staff have talked with the nearest hospital and/ or local clinic to make them aware of our presence and will supply adult leaders with phone numbers and directions. The participant release form filled out by each youth and adult leader is sufficient for entry into a U.S. emergency room. Every staff member is CPR and First Aid certified.

Food Preparation
A YouthWorks staff member will be present in the kitchen for all meal preparations to ensure cleanliness. We ask that all groups who come to the site to participate in the preparation and serving of meals and cleanup. This gives youth an opportunity to serve one another and share the responsibility of the site.

Discipline
We ask every youth to sign a youth covenant before coming on a YouthWorks trip. In signing this covenant, youth agree to fully participate in the mission week and follow the guidelines put in place by the staff. That being said, YouthWorks staff and other leaders will leave the discipline of your youth to the adult leaders from your church. If a situation arises that the YouthWorks staff members believe is irreparable, the involved youth will be transported home immediately at the expense of his or her parent or guardian. We sincerely hope that such a problem never occurs. Our intention is to work closely and prayerfully with trip leaders in making such a decision.

Alcohol, Drug and Weapon Policy
Alcohol, illicit drugs and weapons are strictly forbidden at YouthWorks housing, work and ministry sites. Anyone (leaders/ youth) in possession of such substances or weapons will be sent home immediately. To ensure the safety of participants, we request that any prescription drugs and other medications be held in the custody of an adult leader.

Harassment and Abuse Policy
YouthWorks prohibits sexual harassment, harassment, physical and/ or sexual abuse on or off the YouthWorks premises or in the course of YouthWorks activities or ministries. YouthWorks will investigate any allegations of such misconduct in accordance with applicable law. YouthWorks will not retaliate against the reporting person.
