Green Bay, Wisconsin has all the amenities of a big city, but offers the simple pleasures and relaxed pace of a smaller town. The Green Bay of Lake Michigan, for which the city is named, offers a beautiful setting to bask in the sun. While the city has been consistently recognized as a great place to live, this is not the case for all residents. There still are those who struggle with poverty and even homelessness. Through ministry at homeless shelters and through outreach to both children and the elderly, your group will have a unique opportunity to shine the light of Christ into the darker parts of this city.

Demographics
Established in 1634 on the shores of Lake Michigan, Green Bay is the oldest settlement in the Midwest. Both Native American and European influences have made the city what it is today—a melting pot of tradition and culture. Perhaps the city’s proudest tradition in recent history is that of its beloved NFL football team, the Green Bay Packers. Each year, fans pack the grounds of Lambeau Field, often in freezing temperatures, to cheer on their team with great excitement. The city welcomes visitors to ride the rails at the National Railroad Museum or experience Native American culture at the Oneida Nation Museum. Green Bay has often been rated one of the most family-friendly cities by many national surveys, which is perhaps just one reason that 102,726 people call it home today.
Green Bay’s frequent recognition for low crime and low cost of living tend to mask the fact that there still are many families in need here. Over 10 percent of the population lives below the poverty line, including nearly 13 percent of those under age 18 and 9 percent over age 65. Local homeless shelters serve an average of over 300 people per day, mostly children. These are just some of the residents we invite you to love and serve during your visit to Green Bay.
About the Ministry
Participants serve in a variety of ways during a YouthWorks mission trip. Students may spend all week at one ministry or switch between ministries during the week. Our goal is to partner with local organizations and programs that seek to address the very basic needs of residents. Students may serve at places like: Children’s Programs, Elderly Centers, Soup Kitchens/Homeless Shelters and Thrift Stores. We cannot confirm until all groups arrive exactly what ministries your students will be a part of during the week. We ask that you come with a willing and flexible spirit!
Activities
Evening activities during a YouthWorks week are designed to give participants an insight into the lives of local residents and the culture of the area. A list of evening/cultural activities we have done in the past include: taking part in a community prayer drive through the city; visit Bay Beach amusement park; visit the Packer’s Hall of Fame; and attend a community cookout. These are examples of what your group might partake in during your mission week. These examples are subject to change due to weather or availability. In case of change, suitable substitutes will be provided. We try to arrange for free evening activities, but from time to time, an additional cost may be required for an activity. Please plan to bring an additional $10 per person to cover any extra costs. We will confirm the details closer to your trip.

Green Bay is located 209 miles north of Chicago, Illinois and 117 miles north of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Austin Straubel International Airport is located within the city of Green Bay.
Transportation & Travel
Each group is responsible for transportation to and from the site, and during the mission week. Green Bay can only accommodate standard 15 passenger vans or smaller.
